About Us ...

Tap dance reflects our American heritage and the fusion of African and European cultures through dance, rhythm, and music. Tap’s rich and colorful history has influenced and continues to influence many genres of American art: vaudeville, jazz, musical theater, Broadway, film and television, not to mention other dance forms. It developed alongside important trends in music and theater, and continues to maintain connections with the current trends. Today, tap dance has contemporary significance and continues to reflect our culture.

The GOAL of SLC Tap is to promote the art of tap dance in as many ways as possible.

SLC Tap believes that Tap Dance is a joyful and powerful expressive force.  It reflects our culture, past and present.

  •  It’s a source of enjoyment, an outlet for creativity, a vehicle for expression for amateurs and professionals.
  • Tap dance is significant as a contemporary dance art form, and continues to develop artistically.
  • It is important to practice, preserve, develop, and promote tap dance; this is in our community’s best interest!
  • The legacy and wonder of this art form needs to be transferred to succeeding generations.
We want to:
  • start a conversation
  • increase tap’s mainstream profile.
  • produce events, collaborate with other artists
  • teach classes and workshops
  • choreograph for community dance groups
  • create a broad, dedicated, supportive tap community in Salt Lake City.
  • build a secure and vibrant future for tap in Salt Lake City and beyond.
